From 15,000 to 20,000 lambs will be shipped from Rockbridge county, Va.. to the New York market this season. Five years ago scarcely a carload was shipped. Charles Osburn, who was to have been hanged at Atlanta, ffa., for the murder of John Bradley, was respited for thirty days on account of his weak physical condition. -In a recent interview Mrs. Jefferson Davis informed a delegation of Richmond ladies that the preference of her husband for his grave was one "upon which the sun could shine. " At Lexington, Va., the remains of (Jen. Stonewall Jackson were removed from the grave and placed iu the vault over which the monument is to be unveiled July 21 is now building. A slight shock of earthquake occurred at Charleston, S. She appeared very proud ot them, and would sit on a cest with the kittens under her. The board of trustees of the Washington and Lee L niversity has bought the real estate, library, etc., of the old Franklin Society. It pays each stockholder 50 and the depls of the society, and endows the Franklin Society scholarship with $300 fur some student from Rockbridge. Rev. J. W. Stone has been conducting a re vival in Mason county, W. Vn., and was ac cused by John Woody of being too intimate wilh a sister of the fold, whereupon the rev erend drew his knife and stabbed his accuser in the side. Although Woody was wounded, he gave Stone such a thrashing that but for interference he might have killed hini. A sensation has been caused in legal circles in West Virainia by the discovery that over four-fifths of the juries drawn since the ses sion of the Legislature closed were drawn illegally. The census oflice just issued a bulletin giv ing the population of Virginia by minor civil divisions. The total population of the Stale is , ')5,5,980, an increase over 180 of 143,415. Of the 100 counties in the Stale 35 show de creases of over 10 per cent. Warwick, Roan oke, Allegheny and Tazewell u ties show the largest percentage of incaease, the first named showing an increase of 194.51 per cent., while Roanoke shows an increase of 129. tin per cent. Henrico, Norfolk and Roanoke show the largest numerical increases. Houston Obenchain, of Roanoke, Va., shot and mortally wounded II. X. Trout at Trout ville, about ten miles from Roanoke. Oben chain left Roanoke in a buggy and stopped at Trout's father's, in the evening he took two girls to church, and then went to Trout's residenee, and invited him to go to church with him. When in front of the edifice he drew his revolver nnd fired five shots at Trout. Two balls struck him in the head, one enter ing the brain and the other entering through his jaw. Obenchain, it is said, accused Trout with circulating derogatory reports to a lady regarding his character. Obenchain then went to Ben Murray's house, close by, nnd, filaeing the revolver to his forehead, sent a nillet through his brain, from which he died instantly.
